Guatemala Mission Trip

On Saturday, November 1st, five of my newest friends from Grace Bible Church and I got back from a trip to Guatemala with Living Water.  Going into the week, my biggest prayer was for communication to be beyond the language barrier because my Spanish is ‘no bueno.'  The Lord blessed me with so many experiences to answer this prayer!  Soccer, jump roping, bubbles and Frisbee were all playable without language!  He allowed me to connect with the several mothers of the community by using ...

Genesis 13:14-15  The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west.  All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.”

While there are many promises made throughout the book of Genesis, one reiterated over and over again is God’s promise to Abraham and his descendants regarding their possession of the land of Israel. While this promise and many other Biblical events that have occurred in ...

Why cross-cultural missions?

By

Why do we participate in missions at Grace Bible Church? Is it because we’re just supposed to, and we’ll look bad if we don’t? Are we trying to make sure that friends from other churches think we’re doing a good job of “giving back to the community”? Do we just love supporting the airline industry by travelling to far-away and often less-developed places?

Of course, none of the above are even close to correct.

We participate in missions because God’s chosen people have always been given the ...

This July, Heights Young Life took 82 kids and leaders to Young Life Camp at Windy Gap near Asheville, North Carolina. In Young Life, we use the term "best week of your life" when we refer to camp. We can do that with great confidence because we believe that when we take our friends to camp, we are taking them to the feet of Jesus. It's not that Jesus lives at Windy Gap exclusively, just that we get to enter a space that has been constructed for kids to consider Jesus away from all the

Faith Under Pressure

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. JAMES 1:2-4 (The Message) 6,903 miles we traveled to the southern part of Turkey to see firsthand this kind of “faith under pressure” being refined in the lives of

It Cannot Fail

By

The church is alive, growing, leading, unfailing and unstoppable. This is not because of us. This is because of Jesus.

In February I traveled to Thailand to serve on a volunteer team caring for the children of missionary families attending a conference. The purpose of the conference was to equip doctors and dentists living and working in Asia with continuing medical education. Gathered in the mountains of northern Thailand at a sprawling conference center were Christians and their families ...

A New Normal

By

When I returned home from Rwanda last November, the first thing I thought about was sending my dog to the pound. Who feeds a labradoodle when there are starving children in the world? Before you stop reading and start Googling other churches who don’t encourage you to euthanize your pets, let me explain. And yes, the dog is still here, currently barking at the mailman.

I signed up to go on a vision trip with Africa New Life last year mainly because I wanted to share such an amazing time with ...

God parted I-10

By

And Jesus responded, "Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!" Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.

Hello. My name is Little Faith and I have issues trusting God in all things.

I admit that I was THIS CLOSE to cancelling Star of Hope last night. I watched the Doppler radar and the big green and yellow monster hovering over Houston was daunting. Then I ventured out in the mess for client meetings and witnessed the flooding and snail paced ...

Aslan in Africa

“It means,” said Aslan, “that though the Witch knew the Deep Magic, there is a magic deeper still which she did not know…if she could have looked a little further back, into the stillness and the darkness before Time dawned...She would have known that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor’s stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards.”

As these words were read, there was a palpable sense of wonder in the room. The look on ...
