Houston Welcomes Refugees

HWR2022

Orientation and welcome team training

Please join us on April 13th in the GBC Living Room from 10:30-3:30pm to become a volunteer for Houston Welcomes Refugees! The first two hours will be the required orientation for all volunteer opportunities followed by lunch. After lunch will start training specifically to join a Welcome Team. As part of a Welcome Team, you will be connected to a refugee family that is new to Houston for a 6 month time period as you help them adjust to their new life in our city.  To find out more about the trainings and other volunteer opportunities, Click Here. Grab a few friends or your growth group/community group for this unique opportunity to serve together!

MOBILIZING OUR CITY TO WELCOME REFUGEES WITH COMPASSION, HOPE AND HONOR AS THEY RESETTLE AND START A NEW LIFE IN HOUSTON.

Our mission is to help ease the resettlement process for refugees coming to Houston by mobilizing invested, caring volunteers, and fostering hope amidst crisis. We offer hope through our three programs:

1. Starting Essentials: Donated Welcome Kits and volunteer Move-In Teams ensure refugees receive the essentials needed to begin again in their new homes.
2. Friendship: Our Welcome Teams honor refugees with the gift of friendship and connect them with critical resources as they navigate their first months in Houston.
3. Community Education: Through training, and special events, the Houston community is educated on refugees, resettlement, and how to get involved.
