History

GBC exists to glorify God by making disciples who transform the world.

With plans to plant a disciple-making church in West's hometown, West and Mary Brazelton moved their family from Mammoth Lakes, California to Houston, Texas, in the fall of 2002. West began forming a core group of friends and family who were excited about church planting and discipleship. This small group met on Sunday evenings in West and Mary’s home for six months and then began meeting on Sunday mornings for worship services at a movie theater in September 2003.

This group of committed people launched Grace Bible Church intending to glorify God by making disciples who transform the world. In the past 20 years, we’ve seen God faithfully build His Kingdom through our disciple-making efforts. We started in a home, moved to a movie theater, and then in 2006 moved into the church at 1111 W 14th Street in the Heights. In 2014 we relocated to our current building on Hurst Street.

Though small in number, the group responsible for starting GBC alongside West was and is committed to making disciples. We believe that disciple-making is an intentional and relational process through which a person is equipped and mobilized into God's kingdom work. We believe that Christians experience God most profoundly when they use their gifts to participate in His ministry.

We understand discipleship as an intentional, relational process by which people are equipped and sent out for God’s Kingdom work. For those who consider GBC their church home, this process takes place in three settings: Corporate Worship, Small Groups, and Service.
